Gaming Culture in Bhopal- Hindustan Times Feature

Viraja Ramanujam

What ‘Rock and Roll’ was to the kids of the sixties, games are to the youth of today. With a boom in the IT sector over the last decade, cyber gaming is one activity teenagers have got addicted to. The development of internet and the spread of broadband connections have breathed new life into the multi-billion dollar game industry. ‘Gaming Zones’ have enjoyed increasing popularity and have become the testing ground for new and innovative ideas that cannot be provided to home users.
Teens in Bhopal have started acknowledging gaming zones as paradise. Dimly lit rooms with trance background music and a soothing environment is what they enjoy. With ‘Amoeba’ in DB Mall being the first and only gaming center of its kind in the city, gaming culture is slowly picking up. “There is good crowd during vacation time of schools and colleges and also during weekends. Although, awareness about cyber gaming is still lacking in Bhopal,” says Anand Pathak, Manager, Amoeba Game Zone.
The city still has a long way to go as far as cyber gaming is concerned. The trend has just emerged and more gaming zones need to be introduced for the awareness to go up.
