Hankering for flawless and glowing skin or a peaches and cream complexion? Cosmetology has the answer to your desires. Be it concern for tan and pigmentation, acne scars, skin tags and warts or dull, drawn and tired eyes, there seems to be a solution for every skin and hair related predicament. The beauty segment is at a high point in society and has become an integral part of our careers as well. To keep up with the current trend, city skin doctors are having to focus more on perfect skin rather than just curing eczema and other skin related diseases.
With men and women of all age groups in the city progressively awakening to the esteem of good looks, more dermatologists are taking a plunge as cosmetologists. Even as it is a highly lucrative profession, skin doctors attribute this shift in trend to the idea that any skin related contention can be dealt with in the best possible way by a trained skin specialist. “Cosmetology is nothing but improvement of skin and who better than a dermatologist to guide and conduct procedures on clients,” says Anurag Tiwari, who has been in this avocation for ten years now.
“People want their looks to be perfect and medication does not cleanse the skin completely. We are made to focus on cosmetology as it is the need of the hour,” feels Nitin Pandya of ‘Neo Derma Skin Clinic’.
Somewhere, awareness about skin correction procedures is still lacking in Bhopal. Most individuals consult a dermatologist only if they have a medical problem and visit salons for routine procedures like skin cleansing, tan removal and so on. “People in metro cities get skin upliftment procedures done quite often, but it is picking up well here as well,” says Meenakshi Tandon, a well known figure in this line of work. “In metros, skin correction procedures have become a part of the lifestyle and Bhopal is coming close to this awareness level. People know the benefits and are willing to undergo or rather, demanding these procedures now,” echoes Anurag Tiwari.
Despite invasive and non-invasive skin treatment techniques being artificial ways of improving skin quality, they are said to have no side effects. A lot of research goes into it and only natural ingredients are used. “It is imperative to make sure that you are in safe hands since some industrial products available in the market may be carcinogenic,” affirms Meenakshi. “Cheaper products in the market may induce side-effects,” adds Garima of ‘Kaya Skin Clinic’. According to cosmetologists and beauticians, maintaining a healthy diet is essential as is home treatment after sessions that last anywhere between 3 minutes to half an hour.

Beautician, Nikky Bawa to HT
“The cosmetology industry has seen a positive surge in the recent past. With sleeveless and backless attire in fashion, not only the youth but also middle-aged and elderly women are more conscious about their skin and complexion. It is increasingly becoming a craze among men as well.”
Clientele Speak
Neha, 25 years- “I went in for peeling to clear my face off pimples and improve scars. I prefered a skin specialist because I feel they are more qualified. I suggest such procedures to my friends but there is lack of publicity and exposure in the city.”
Jasleen, 32 years- “I go to my cosmetologist for hair spa, peeling, hair massage and more. In a salon, I don’t get much guidance. I feel that people in Bhopal are hesitant and still not very confident and comfortable with skin treatment procedures.”
